Xuan Vinh put an end to the year-long reign of the Republic of Korea’s Jin Jongoh with an stratospheric score of 1,201 points, leaving other top shooters including Jin Jongoh (981 points), Italy’s Andrea Amore (796) and Russia’s Sergey Chervyakovskiy (743) far behind.
He also enjoyed a promotion in the world 50m pistol ranking, climbing to sixth position with 534 points.
Xuan Vinh, a military colonel, rallied to the top with his shining performance at the recent 2014 ISSF Rifle and Pistol World Cup Stage in Fort Benning, Georgia, USA, where he won the men’s 10m air pistol with a record score of 202.8 points, shattering the previous record of 202.3 points set by the 2008 Olympic champion, Pang Wei of China.
Vinh remains among Vietnam’s golden hopes at the upcoming 2014 Asian Games in Incheon, Republic of Korea. He will compete in three pistol events and is currently working hard towards his gold medal target.
