Monfils overcomes Wawrinka to lift Rotterdam title

France's Gael Monfils overcame a determined Stan Wawrinka to win the Rotterdam Open 6-3 1-6 6-2 on Saturday, lifting his first title since January 2018.

* Williams will miss the first day of Formula One's pre-season testing in Spain on Monday because they have yet to finish their car, the former champions said on Sunday. The delays had already forced the British team, last overall in 2018 with one of the worst-handling cars they have ever built, to cancel a filming day at Barcelona's Circuit de Catalunya on Saturday.

* Qatar wants to attract more sports companies to the Gulf state, aiming to develop a US$20 billion (15.51 billion pounds) sports sector ahead of the 2022 World Cup, a senior official said on Sunday.

* Imperious Marcel Hirscher blitzed Sunday's (Feb 17) slalom to equal a record seven world titles in an Austrian podium sweep that handed the alpine powerhouse a first gold of the world championships in Are.

* Italian Marco Cecchinato won the Argentina Open on Sunday with a clinical 6-1 6-2 demolition of hometown favourite Diego Schwartzman. World number 18 Cecchinato raced through the match in little over an hour to claim his third ATP title.

* Jose Mourinho said he could see himself coaching in France as he attended Sunday's (Feb 17) 0-0 draw between Lille and Montpellier to reportedly cast an eye over Ivorian star Nicolas Pepe.

* Russia's Daria Kasatkina roared back from a break down in the deciding set to beat Polish qualifier Magdalena Frech 6-3 3-6 6-4 in the opening round of the Dubai Duty Free Tennis Championships on Sunday. Former world number one Garbine Muguruza was also forced to work hard for her 4-6 6-3 6-3 victory over Dayana Yastremska

* Borussia Moenchengladbach were frustrated in their attempt to force their way further into the Bundesliga title race on Sunday (Feb 17) when they were held to a 1-1 draw at Eintracht Frankfurt.

* Inter Milan ended a turbulent week by beating Sampdoria 2-1 in Serie A on Sunday under the gaze of injured top scorer Mauro Icardi.

* Napoli's title hopes took a further blow on Sunday (Feb 17) as Carlo Ancelotti's side were held to a goalless draw for the third time in four league matches to drop further points against Torino and trail champions Juventus by 13 points.
