Accordingly, the tournaments, slated to kick off in late November or early December 2021 (SEA Games) and late December 2021 (Para Games), will draw the participation of sport delegations from 11 countries across Southeast Asia.

As scheduled, the 31st SEA Games will feature 36 events, with Olympic and Asian Games events accounting for two-third of the total, while other nations in the region could propose some more events according to the practice.

The 11th ASEAN Para Games, to be hosted in Hanoi, plan to comprise 14 events which are to be determined by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and then reported to the steering committee for the Games.

The 31st SEA Games will be hosted in Hanoi and some localities adjacent to the capital city, which will be considered and named by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism on the principle of maximum concentration to ensure convenience, economy and efficiency.

The PM has assigned the ministry to submit a plan to him on the establishment of a steering committee for the Games, which is headed by a deputy PM. The steering committee is authorised to decide the formation of a central organising committee, headed by the Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism, to run the relevant activities. In addition, the steering committee will be tasked with directing ministries, sectors and localities concerned and the organising committee to implement relevant work in accordance with the provisions of the Southeast Asian Games Federation, the ASEAN Para Sports Federation and Vietnamese laws.

The Hanoi City People’s Committee has been tasked with coordinating with the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to develop and implement a master plan for the organisation of the Games in Hanoi, including the opening and closing ceremonies and other relevant activities.
