A superb strike by Nguyen Tien Linh was enough for Vietnam to collect full three points from ten-man UAE at My Dinh Stadium on Thursday night, thus overtaking Thailand, who lost 2-1 to hosts Malaysia the same day, to take the top spot in Group G in the second World Cup qualifier round for the Asian Zone with ten points after four matches.

The excellent performance brings coach Park Hang-seo’s side VND1 billion each from the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) and CT Group, along with VND500 million from Gia Nguyen Group, as reported by the VFF.

The bonus for Park and his players will certainly continue to increase if Vietnam defeat Thailand in the next match also at Hanoi’s My Dinh National Stadium on November 19.

Regarding this match, this afternoon (Nov ember 16), the Thailand team have arrived in Hanoi, one day earlier than the set plan, showing that “War Elephants” have very high determination to beat the hosts.

This is understandable, as if they get one more loss, they would hardly have the opportunity to compete for Group G’s top position to ensure automatic qualification to the next round. Thailand are ranked second in the group with seven points.

Coach Park and his players will definitely aim to win the full three points in the next match to stay atop the group. The squad were back to training this afternoon to prepare for the clash against their regional arch-rivals in the next three days.
