V.League 1-2021 Matchweek 4

SHB Da Nang’s winning run ended by newbies Binh Dinh

SHB Da Nang spurned the chance to solidify their lead at the top of the table as Le Huynh Duc’s side saw their three-game winning streak halted following a 1-0 away defeat against newly promoted Topenland Binh Dinh on March 19.

Defender Ho Tan Tai scored the solitary goal to move Nguyen Duc Thang’s troops into third place, two points off leaders Da Nang.

Given the home-field advantage, Binh Dinh took a shock lead after just eight minutes when Ho Tan Tai drove a powerful shot from the edge of the box, beating goalkeeper Nguyen Tuan Manh’s efforts to parry the ball.

Inspired by the early opener, the hosts continued to play strongly and put consistent pressure on the away team. Meanwhile, frontrunners Da Nang experienced their most deadlocked half since the beginning of the season, only managing to produce one clear-cut opportunity during the 45 minutes with Rafaelson’s long-range strike going narrowly wide.

After the break, Binh Dinh came close several times to extending their advantage; however, inaccurate attempts by Tran Van Trung and Hendrio Dasilva prevented them from adding to their tally.

In particular, Rimario wasted a golden chance to make it 2-0 for Nguyen Duc Thang’s side in injury time as he failed to beat keeper Tuan Manh in a one on one.

Nevertheless, the 1-0 score was enough to secure the newly promoted team the full three points and lift them up to third in the table, level with second-placed Viettel FC on seven points.

In the other matches the same day, reigning champions Viettel FC edged out Nam Dinh FC 2-1 away, while Ho Chi Minh City won the derby against Saigon FC thanks to a successful penalty from Lee Nguyen.
