Leno blunder gifts Everton 1-0 win over Arsenal

An own goal by Arsenal keeper Bernd Leno gave Everton a 1-0 win in their Premier League clash at The Emirates on Friday (Apr 23), gifting the Toffees three valuable points in their quest for European football next season and damaging their own hopes.

Leno bundled Richarlison's low cross into the net in the 76th minute for the only goal to move eighth-placed Everton to 52 points, one behind Liverpool and three behind fourth-placed Chelsea, while the Gunners stay ninth on 46.

* Cologne's Ondrej Duda struck twice in the first half to help them to a nervous 3-2 win at Augsburg on Friday and make it two wins in a row as they battle to avoid relegation with three games left in the Bundesliga season. Cologne, who also stunned second-placed RB Leipzig 2-1 on Tuesday, climbed to 16th place and into the relegation playoff spot on 29 points.

* Tiger Woods posted a photo of himself on crutches on Friday and said his rehab is "coming along" two months after the golf great suffered severe leg injuries when his car careened off a road near Los Angeles and crashed.

* Anthony McGill upset reigning champion Ronnie O'Sullivan 13-12 in the World Championship second round on Friday, denying him a shot at a record-equalling seventh Crucible title.

* The top two seeds, Australia's Ashleigh Barty and Romania's Simona Halep, respectively, scored quarterfinal victories Friday and moved on to the semifinal round at the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart, Germany. Fourth seed Elina Svitolina of Ukraine joined them, advancing past seventh-seeded Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic 6-7 (4), 7-5, 6-2.

* Coming off back-to-back three-set matches, No. 1 seed Rafael Nadal rolled to a 6-1, 6-4 win over Great Britain's Cameron Norrie on Friday to reach the semifinals of the Barcelona Open. Nadal will meet fellow Spaniard and No. 6 seed Pablo Carreno Busta, who outlasted No. 4 Diego Schwartzman of Argentina 6-4, 3-6, 7-5 in two hours and 35 minutes.

* World No. 1 Novak Djokovic of Serbia crushed countryman Miomir Kecmanovic 6-1, 6-3 to reach the semifinals of the Serbia Open in Belgrade. Djokovic's foe Saturday will be No. 3 seed Aslan Karatsev of Russia, who won 6-3, 6-4 against Italy's Gianluca Mager.

* Andrea Oriana, an Italian former Olympic swimmer, has set a new record on the high-altitude and chilly Lake Titicaca, the world's highest navigable lake that is surrounded by Andean mountain ranges between Bolivia and Peru. The 47-year-old swam across 20 km of the lake without a wetsuit in a total 5 hours and 33 minutes, breaking the previous record for distance swum on the lake at his third attempt, despite bracing waters and thin air at 3,812 metres above sea level.

* Two rounds of South American World Cup qualifiers will be played "in the days before the Copa America" begins on June 13, the South American Football Confederation said on Friday.

* Last year's finalists Persepolis kept their quest for a first-ever Asian Champions League title on track on Friday with a 4-0 win over group hosts FC Goa that secured the Iranians a place in the knockout rounds of the competition. The win was the fourth in a row for Yahya Golmohammadi's side in Group E and the second in three days over the Indian club, meaning Persepolis are certain to either win the group or take one of the best runners-up positions in the last 16.

* Marcus Rashford could be available for Manchester United at Leeds United on Sunday (Apr 25) despite the England forward missing training this week, while defender Eric Bailly is back in contention after testing positive for COVID-19.

* Manchester City's Kevin De Bruyne and Sergio Aguero are back from injury and are in contention for Sunday's League Cup final, manager Pep Guardiola said on Friday as the club targets a fourth title in a row when they play Tottenham Hotspur.

* Seville will replace Bilbao as a host city for Euro 2020, with St Petersburg in Russia, already a host venue, taking some games from Dublin, UEFA vice-president Zbigniew Boniek said on Friday.

* Barcelona will host an Olympic artistic swimming qualifier in June after it was unable to be held in Tokyo, world body FINA said on Friday. The Jun 10-13 tournament will be the final qualifier before the delayed 2020 Olympics start on Jul 23, with three of the 10 participating teams and seven of 22 duets still to secure their places.

* Russian Nikita Nagornyy performed a triple back pike somersault on the floor exercise at the European Artistic Gymnastics Championships in Basel, Switzerland on Thursday, becoming the first gymnast to perform the element in competition. The 2019 World and European all-around champion, favourite for gold at this year's Tokyo Games, will have the element named after him - 'The Nagornyy', the Olympic Channel said. It is the most difficult skill in the Code of Points.

* Sydney FC received a major boost in their quest to retain the A-League title on Friday with the announcement that prolific English striker Adam Le Fondre will return to the club on a 2 1/2-year deal.
