The August Revolution of 1945 shattered the yoke of French colonial rule, ended an absolute monarchy that had existed for nearly a millennium, and established the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam—the first people’s democratic state in Southeast Asia where the people were the masters of their own destiny. From that moment, the nation entered a new era: an era of national independence and socialism.
The achievements of the August Revolution of 1945 served as a vital foundation for the entire Party, people, and armed forces to press forward and secure great victories in the fight for national liberation, the defence of the Fatherland, national reunification, and the construction of a socialist state of the people, by the people, and for the people.
The August Revolution of 1945 also held epochal significance and profound international importance, inspiring colonised nations and oppressed, exploited peoples across the globe to rise up in the fight for independence, democracy, and social progress.
The victory of the August Revolution in 1945 embodies the nation’s age-old aspirations for independence and freedom; it stands as a noble symbol of patriotism and the power of great national unity. More than eighty years have passed, yet the lessons drawn from the August Revolution retain their full theoretical and practical value, as well as profound contemporary relevance.
These include the lesson of upholding the leadership role of the Communist Party of Viet Nam and maintaining absolute faith that the Party’s leadership is the decisive factor in every victory of the Vietnamese revolution. It involves steadfast adherence to the Party’s theoretical foundation—Marxism-Leninism and Ho Chi Minh Thought—and holding high the banner of national independence associated with socialism. There are also lessons on recognising and seizing revolutionary opportunities, and on unleashing the power of patriotism and the spirit of great national unity.
Furthermore, there is the lesson of fostering a spirit of independence, autonomy, creativity, self-reliance, and self-strengthening—the principle of “using our own strength to liberate ourselves”. That revolutionary spirit continued to shine brightly within the nation’s history, serving as a solid foundation for our people to write new, glorious chapters in our history.

Taking pride in that historic autumn, we forever cherish the immense contributions of the great President Ho Chi Minh, the brilliant leader of the Vietnamese revolution; ...honouring the dedication and the sacrifices—including the ultimate sacrifice—made by millions of heroic martyrs (the nation’s finest sons and daughters), veteran revolutionaries, Vietnamese Heroic Mothers, and families with meritorious services to the Fatherland.
Carrying forward the revolutionary legacy, the entire Party, people, and military remain steadfast in firmly safeguarding revolutionary achievements and continuously upholding the enduring values of the August Revolution of 1945 amidst this new phase of development. We are resolutely committed to defending the Fatherland’s independence, freedom, sovereignty, and territorial integrity, as well as firmly protecting national interests, by harnessing the nation’s combined strength—encompassing political, economic, cultural, scientific-technological, military, and diplomatic power, alongside the strength derived from the people’s support.
The year 2026 marks the commencement of the implementation of the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress. The Congress has defined the mindset, vision, and strategic decisions necessary for the country to stride confidently into the nation’s new era, successfully achieving development goals by 2030—the centenary of the Party’s founding—and realising the development vision for 2045, marking the centenary of the founding of the Democratic Republic of Viet Nam (now the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam).
The entire Party, people, and military are determined to successfully meet the targets and tasks of 2026, thereby creating solid momentum for the years ahead. Every official, Party member, and citizen must uphold a spirit of utmost effort, innovation, and creativity, joining forces and acting in unison to translate the Party’s guidelines and decisions, as well as the State’s plans and programs, into concrete results and measurable values aimed at realising the nation's development goals.
Party committees and organisations must intensify Party building and rectification, linking this effort to the promotion of studying and practicing Ho Chi Minh’s ideology, morality, methodology, and style in this new stage of development. They must continuously cultivate and enhance the capabilities of leadership and management cadres at all levels—particularly at the grassroots—while constantly innovating their mindset and demonstrating the courage to think and act for the benefit of the nation and the people.
Every Party member must earnestly set an example of revolutionary morality and take the lead in all tasks, effectively meeting their responsibilities. They must prove themselves worthy of their role as a core force capable of rallying the masses in unity under the revolutionary banner, fostering trust in the Party’s leadership, and advancing the nation along its new path of development.
The August Revolution of 1945—a magnificent epic of the Vietnamese nation in the 20th century—will forever remain a blazing flame, inspiring the entire Vietnamese people to advance rapidly, vigorously, and steadily into a new era of development, to achieve miracles in the 21st century, and to build a powerful and prosperous Viet Nam.
