Straddling the 17th parallel, Con Co Island has long been recognised as a frontline outpost safeguarding Viet Nam's sovereignty. During the war against the US, it earned fame as an "offshore fortress", associated with legendary heroes such as Thai Van A, who fought valiantly under relentless bombardment from enemy warships and aircraft. 

Amid the waters off Quang Tri, Con Co Island continues to preserve the vibrant green of its coral reefs, rocky shores and precious ecosystems. To ensure that this natural beauty is not overwhelmed by plastic waste, the campaign "Con Co protects the sea, we protect our awareness" has been launched, spreading the message of marine conservation through the simplest actions taken by every resident and visitor.
