The Viet Nam Trade Office in India hosted an online seminar on April 22 to promote cooperation between the two countries in the textile and footwear sectors.
Unpredictable market developments and geopolitical conflicts in the Middle East have disrupted supply chains, driving up transport and insurance costs, and negatively affecting business operations.
Amid ongoing volatility in global trade, Viet Nam’s textile and garment sector continues to maintain its position among the world’s leading producers. This serves as an important foundation for the sector to continue restructuring and meeting the green standards of international markets.
Despite ranking second among the world’s textile, garment, and footwear exporters, the value created by these two industries remains very low, with enterprises mainly engaged in processing and dependent on imported raw materials.
In the first five months of the year, Viet Nam’s garment export revenue reached 17.8 billion USD, up 10% over the same period in 2024. With a large number of orders and the recent mobilisation of maximum production capacity, businesses have been able to optimise profits and gradually meet their targets.
The minister called on the USABC and the US business community continue to support Viet Nam in the process of negotiating a reciprocal trade agreement with the US, and coordinate to promote the investment and business potential and opportunities in Viet Nam to US partners.
