New hopes for peace in Gaza have emerged after the US-backed Board of Peace unveiled a 15-point roadmap in late July 2026 aimed at ending the conflict. The door to peace has opened slightly, but the path ahead remains difficult, with several major obstacles still standing in the way of implementation.

During a meeting with the UNRWA official in Manila, the Philippines on July 22, Deputy Foreign Minister Dang Hoang Giang affirmed Viet Nam’s consistent support for UNRWA’s role and operations, praising its efforts to maintain humanitarian, educational and healthcare assistance for Palestinians amid the complex situation.

European donors have pledged 1 billion USD to help rebuild the Gaza Strip. The generous commitment from Europe has been warmly welcomed by the people of Gaza, as it represents a valuable source of support for rebuilding the Mediterranean coastal territory from the ruins left by the prolonged conflict.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Israel said on May 20 that it is implementing citizen protection measures for Tieu Nguyen Bao Ngoc, a Vietnamese national who joined a flotilla organised by the Global Sumud Flotilla heading to the Gaza Strip and detained by Israeli authorities.

Disarming the Islamist movement Hamas, bringing Israel’s military operations to an end, and securing a full withdrawal are considered key prerequisites for a peace plan in the Gaza Strip. However, the parties’ failure to adhere to the roadmap has left the daunting challenge of restoring peace to the narrow Mediterranean enclave unresolved.

Viet Nam stands ready to participate in the Gaza reconstruction in line with practical conditions and its capabilities, on the basis of respect for national independence, sovereignty and international law, Ambassador Nguyen Nam Duong stressed.

As one of the first countries to recognise the State of Palestine, Viet Nam welcomes all efforts to bring lasting peace to the Gaza Strip for the benefit of the Palestinian people, on the basis of international law and the United Nations Charter.

As the Gaza Strip residents prepare to welcome the New Year, they harbour hopes that peace will become a reality, following the establishment of a ceasefire after more than two years of conflict.

The Gaza peace plan proposed by the US once kindled hopes of ending the conflict that has dragged on for more than two years in the Gaza Strip. Yet, despite the international community’s efforts, the plan is now clouded by suspicion, fuelled by political clashes of interest and a profound lack of trust between the parties.

Viet Nam welcomes the Israel – Hamas agreement aimed at ending the ongoing conflict in the Gaza Strip soon and highly values countries' mediation and reconciliation efforts that helped achieve this outcome, stated Spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Pham Thu Hang on October 14.

The dire situation in Gaza was one of the main topics at the international conference on the Israel – Palestine conflict held in New York (the US), gathering ministers from over 100 countries.

Viet Nam consistently supports the two-state solution, including the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine based on pre-1967 borders, in accordance with international law and relevant United Nations (UN) resolutions, said Minister Counselor Nguyen Hoang Nguyen.
