The UN General Assembly’s adoption of a resolution on the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development reflects Viet Nam’s increasingly proactive role at multilateral forums.

Shortly after the UN General Assembly’s September 4 plenary session adopted a resolution proclaiming 2027–2036 as the International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development, an initiative promoted by a core group comprising Viet Nam, Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar, and Saint Kitts and Nevis, UNESCO leaders and representatives of many member states of this organisation have welcomed the significant development.

The UN General Assembly on September 4 adopted a resolution on the “International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development (2027–2036)”, proposed and promoted by Viet Nam together with a core group comprising Cyprus, Italy, Laos, Qatar and Saint Kitts and Nevis, with 103 countries as co-sponsors.

In November 2025, at the 43rd session of the UNESCO General Conference in Uzbekistan, member states agreed to adopt a draft resolution initiated by Viet Nam on launching an “International Decade of Culture for Sustainable Development,” co-sponsored and supported by 71 countries.
