A new initiative to accelerate climate technology investment in Viet Nam has been launched by the Ministry of Finance in partnership with the Korea International Cooperation Agency (KOICA) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI).
Transport is a major source of greenhouse gas emissions, accounting for around 30% of the total. It is also a leading cause of fine particulate pollution and other harmful gases. Reducing emissions is therefore an urgent task in achieving the Net Zero target by 2050, while also serving as a crucial solution for protecting human health and the living environment.
On the journey toward Net Zero, alongside efforts to curb emissions, harnessing and accumulating carbon credits from nature is an effective solution. Recently, Vietnamese scientists have identified a natural carbon source with large reserves and high average storage capacity within mangrove forest ecosystems.
In the strategy to reduce emissions and achieve net-zero emissions (Net Zero) by 2050, forests play an important role. Not only are they the “green lungs” of the planet, forests also naturally absorb CO₂, helping to balance greenhouse gases.
Viet Nam’s commitment to achieving net zero emissions by 2050, announced at the 26th United Nations Climate Change Conference (COP26), is gradually becoming a development axis for the green, circular, and low-emission economy. However, the journey from commitment to implementation remains long, with multiple barriers that must be identified and gradually removed.
In the context of globalisation, many enterprises are emerging as pioneers in transitioning towards green and sustainable development models, helping the nation move closer to its international commitments, such as the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by 2030 and achieving Net Zero emissions by 2050.
As climate change becomes increasingly severe, nearly half of the world’s nations – accounting for approximately 80% of global emissions – have committed to achieving net zero emissions by the middle of this century. As one of the countries severely affected by climate change, Viet Nam is not standing on the sidelines.
At COP26, Viet Nam pledged to achieve net zero emissions by 2050, reaffirming its commitment to sustainable development and global climate action.
The Viet Nam Net Zero Forum 2025, themed “The carbon market in a new era”, brought together over 200 participants to discuss key solutions for achieving net-zero emissions.
Recent high temperatures coinciding with students’ summer break have increased power demand, causing many to worry about high electricity bills. In this context, authorities recommended that consumers use energy efficiently, change their power use habits and switch to devices with high energy efficiency.
The greening of export processing zones (EPZs) and industrial parks (IPs) to increase investment value, protect the environment and promote sustainable development is among the key goals in Ho Chi Minh City’s development planning for the new era, particularly following its administrative merger with Ba Ria–Vung Tau and Binh Duong.
Ho Chi Minh City is determined to enhance the added value of its existing industries and attract businesses to participate in high-tech, ecological, low-emission, and sustainable industrial sectors within its export processing zones and industrial parks.
In parallel with drafting a decree on emissions control for automobiles, the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment is preparing a roadmap for controlling emissions from motorbikes.
