#Thang Long Imperial Citadel
Against the heritage backdrop of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in the heart of Ha Noi, melodies of Vietnamese traditional folk music blended with music from around the world on October 2 evening, creating a vibrant and colourful artistic tapestry.
General Secretary of the Communist Party of Viet Nam Central Committee and President To Lam attended a groundbreaking ceremony for a project on conservation, restoration and rehabilitation of Kinh Thien Palace at the World Heritage Site of Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Ha Noi on September 29.
The Asia-Pacific Dialogue on Heritage and Authenticity will take place from September 27 to October 1 in Ha Noi and Ninh Binh, bringing together around 250 Vietnamese and regional delegates, as heard at a press conference on September 22.
The event aims to provide an international scientific forum for further research, exchanges and discussions on authenticity in world heritage conservation, in close connection with the outstanding universal value, integrity and cultural values of heritage elements.
The second Thang Long-Ha Noi Festival, themed “Heritage Flow”, will officially open on the evening of September 11, bringing the space of the Imperial Citadel of Thang Long to life with music, lighting, and technology to create an encounter between contemporary art and the thousand-year-old heritage values of Ha Noi.
The committee commended Viet Nam for fulfilling the commitments it has made since the citadel was inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List in 2010, as well as for implementing recommendations from the committee and its advisory bodies.
The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long is the soul of the thousand-year-old capital. In the past, it was the setting for numerous royal rituals and court ceremonies. Since the early 19th century, however, Thang Long ceased to be the nation’s capital, and its court rituals and ceremonial life gradually disappeared.
As part of the series of activities celebrating the Lunar New Year 2026 at the heritage site, the spring incense offering ceremony at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel combined royal court traditions with elements of traditional folk festivals, expressing wishes for a smooth and prosperous start to the new year.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh offered incense at Kinh Thien Palace, part of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Ha Noi, to commemorate kings and those who made contributions to the nation on the morning of February 14, the 27th day of the last lunar month.
Ha Noi has added a distinctive highlight to its 2026 cultural and external activities with the inaugural Tet Flower Street arranged within the World Cultural Heritage Site of the Thang Long Imperial Citadel, welcoming residents as well as domestic and international visitors during the Lunar New Year (Tet) Festival.

Within the framework of his official visit to Viet Nam, Speaker of the Jordanian House of Representatives Mazen Turki El Qadi and a high-level delegation on February 4 afternoon laid a wreath in tribute to President Ho Chi Minh at the late leader's mausoleum, offered flowers at the Monument for National Heroes and Martyrs on Bac Son street, and visited the Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Ha Noi.
The Thang Long Imperial Citadel in Ha Noi is hosting a wide range of cultural, ceremonial and experiential activities to celebrate the Lunar New Year (Tet) 2026, aiming to preserve and promote traditional cultural values while meeting the growing interest of the public and visitors.
The Thang Long–Ha Noi Heritage Conservation Centre officially premiered a light-based art production titled “Capital of Thang Long”, featuring 3D mapping technology and a digital experiential space, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel World Heritage Site, Ha Noi, on December 30.
The opening ceremony of the first Thang Long – Ha Noi Festival 2025 under the theme “Heritage – Connection – Era” was held by the Ha Noi People’s Committee on the evening of November 7 at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel.
The opening ceremony of the first Cultures of the World Festival in Ha Noi officially took place at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel (Thang Long Heritage Conservation Centre - Ha Noi) on the evening of October 10. The event was jointly organised by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and the Ha Noi People’s Committee.
On August 19, at the Thang Long Imperial Citadel relic site (Ba Dinh Ward, Ha Noi), the Thang Long–Ha Noi Heritage Conservation Centre will coordinate with relevant units to organise a series of three exhibitions to mark the 80th anniversary of the August Revolution (August 19, 1945 – August 19, 2025) and the National Day of the Socialist Republic of Viet Nam (September 2, 1945 – September 2, 2025).
In recent years, Ha Noi has achieved notable success in building a distinctive culture and nurturing the character of its citizens. As the city enters a new stage of development, the effort to cultivate Ha Noi’s culture and people requires new criteria and breakthrough solutions to meet the demands of a new era of rising.
The Ha Noi People's Committee has issued Plan No. 157/KH-UBND on organising the Thang Long – Ha Noi Festival 2025, aiming to honour, preserve and promote the values of cultural identities and heritage of the capital city.
