Thai Prime Minister and overseas Vietnamese in Thailand express condolences over passing of Party leader Nguyen Phu Trong

On July 19, Prime Minister of Thailand Srettha Thavisin shared a post on his X (formerly Twitter) social media account to express his deep condolences on the passing of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He wrote: “I have learnt with sadness of the passing of H.E. Mr. Nguyen Phu Trong, General Secretary of the Communist Party of Vietnam. Under his leadership, Vietnam has seen rapid growth and development, and played an important role in international affairs. He was a good friend of Thailand and a strong supporter of strategic partnership between our two countries. My deepest sympathy and condolences to his family, the government, and the Vietnamese people.”

A large number of overseas Vietnamese living and working in Thailand also expressed their sorrow over the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

On the evening of July 19, after learning of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing, Luong Xuan Hoa, Member of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Fatherland Front and President of the Vietnamese Association in Udon Thani Province of Thailand, expressed his deep sorrow during an interview with Nhan Dan Newspaper’s correspondents in Thailand.

Hoa said that as an expatriate in Thailand, he has always felt proud and delighted to see Vietnam's rapid development and social stability as well as improved living standards under the leadership of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong and the Communist Party of Vietnam, noting that Vietnam's international role and position have been increasingly enhanced.

Under the decisive leadership of Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong, the fight against corruption and negative phenomena has achieved significant progress. He affirmed that the overseas Vietnamese in Thailand has been always closely grasp the situation in Vietnam and are committed to following the high moral example of General Secretary Trong.

Hoa recalled that during his return to Vietnam along with expatriates from many countries, he had the honour of shaking hands and talking with General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

He also sent a letter of condolence immediately after hearing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong’s passing. He hopes that he can help Vietnam learn more about the overseas Vietnamese’s affection for General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a shining, noble, simple, and pure example.

In his letter, the President of the Vietnamese Association in Udon Thani Province said the passing of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong is a great loss for his family as well as for the country. He also expressed his admiration for the simplicity of General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong, a leader who always put the country and the people first.
