From the early days marked by hardship, when infrastructure was lacking and the lives of officers, soldiers, and residents faced numerous difficulties, today’s Truong Sa has taken on a new, solid, and vibrant appearance.
From its proud past to its transformative present, the traditions of the Truong Sa Special Zone have always been tied to the spirit of “holding fast to the sea, safeguarding the islands” upheld by generations of officers, soldiers, and civilians.
With the special attention of the Vietnamese Party, State, and Army, infrastructure across the islands has been increasingly and comprehensively developed. New harbours, fishing villages, and fishery logistics centres have been built, providing fishermen with safe anchorage, refuelling, repairs, and shelter during storms. These harbours can now receive and repair vessels of up to 2,000 DWT, meeting the needs of thousands of fishermen operating offshore.
Today, Truong Sa is not only a haven for fishermen but also a “shared home” for generations of Vietnamese people. Schools on the islands of Truong Sa, Song Tu Tay, and Sinh Ton continue to function effectively, enabling children on remote islands to study and develop comprehensively. Modern clinics and medical centres have also been established, ensuring healthcare for officers, residents, and fishermen operating in Viet Nam’s maritime zones.
The cultural and spiritual life of the residents on the archipelago has become increasingly rich. Numerous spiritual and cultural structures have been built, such as pagodas, martyrs’ memorials, and the Ho Chi Minh memorial house, reflecting the Vietnamese tradition of gratitude and the sacred bond with the homeland.
Alongside socio-economic development, national defence and security in the Truong Sa Special Zone have been firmly strengthened. Every officer, soldier, and resident here serves as a “living marker,” steadfastly safeguarding the sacred skies and seas of the beloved Vietnamese motherland — building a special zone that is “strong in defence, exemplary in lifestyle, beautiful in environment and a model of military–civilian solidarity.”
Today, Truong Sa, “strong in defence, exemplary in lifestyle, beautiful in environment and a model of military–civilian solidarity,” stands as a reliable support base for fishermen to venture further offshore for fishing.
Increasingly modern facilities are being invested in to provide health care for officers and residents across the archipelago.
Forty-three years may not be long in the nation’s history, but it is enough to affirm the role and immense significance of the Truong Sa Special Zone in Viet Nam’s cause of safeguarding maritime sovereignty. From its proud past to its dynamic present, Truong Sa remains an enduring symbol of patriotism, faith, and aspiration toward the country’s seas and islands.
