These days, in many localities, the sight of veterans actively engaging in public communication, inspecting polling areas, improving the surroundings, and preparing conditions to serve voters has become familiar.

From hanging the national flag and arranging ceremonial decorations to guiding residents through the voting process, every task is carried out with dedication and responsibility. Nguyen Van Lam, President of the Veterans’ Association of Ngoc Ha Ward (Ha Noi), said that 100% of polling stations in the ward have veteran members participating in support activities, while also coordinating to maintain security and order before, during, and after election day.

With an extensive organisational network and a large membership base, many veterans are directly involved in Party committees, local administrations, election teams, and election committees at all levels. Such broad participation not only affirms the prestige of the veteran force but also promotes their practical experience, discipline, and political steadfastness in fulfilling their duties.

From an early stage, many associations have proactively incorporated participation in the election into their resolutions and work programmes, while organising meetings to ensure a unified understanding and coordinated action. As a result, each official and member clearly identifies their responsibility, not only as voters but also as a pioneering force in communication, mobilisation, and the organisation of this important political task of the nation.

In Ninh Binh Province, the Veterans’ Association currently has nearly 223,000 members in 4,466 branches. Notably, more than 5,400 officials and members are participating in Party committees at all levels, from grassroots Party cells to the Provincial Party Committee Executive Board, including many who serve as members of People’s Councils at various levels. The active participation of veterans in the political system has contributed to improving the effectiveness of preparations and organisation of the election, while affirming the exemplary role and sense of responsibility of former soldiers in today’s local tasks.

Recognising that participation in the election is both a key political task and an opportunity to demonstrate the role of the association in social life, veterans’ associations at all levels have carried out many practical activities.

At the end of January 2026, the Ninh Binh Provincial Veterans’ Association organised a conference on election communication with the participation of association presidents from communes and wards, a team of reporters, and association officials. The conference thoroughly explained the significance, requirements, and responsibilities of the association in the election, creating a foundation for unified awareness and action from the provincial level to the grassroots.

Vice President of the Ninh Binh Provincial Veterans’ Association Le Van Chuong emphasised that close engagement with grassroots communities, an understanding of people’s aspirations, and the discipline of members are key factors enabling the association to fulfil its tasks effectively. During the peak period, each member should promote their pioneering role in communication efforts, encouraging voters to cast their ballots correctly and fully.

In Hai Phong City, veterans’ associations at all levels have also actively renewed methods of communication and voter mobilisation. Many voter meetings have been organised in both in-person and online formats, applying digital technology to broaden access and enable more residents to follow and exchange views with candidates.

Dinh Van Truy, President of the Hai Phong Veterans’ Association, said that members not only participate fully in voter meetings but also contribute practical and well-founded opinions that are highly appreciated by both voters and local authorities. Before making their choice, many members proactively study the background, capabilities, and action programmes of each candidate, demonstrating a strong sense of responsibility for the country’s important political event.

In Can Tho City, election communication has been carried out through many flexible and creative forms. According to President of the Can Tho Veterans’ Association Pham Van Buoc, the association organised four reporter conferences attended by 480 grassroots association leaders. Through branch activities and community-based communication efforts, the associations have disseminated information about the significance and importance of the election to about 4,200 officials, 27,800 members, and more than 45,000 residents. These figures demonstrate the proactive and active role of veterans in raising political awareness and civic responsibility within the community.

Many visual communication models such as “Veterans — exemplary voters in the election” and “Veteran neighbourhoods flying the national flag” have been widely implemented, creating a vibrant atmosphere ahead of the great national event. Communication has been conducted through diverse forms such as branch meetings, neighbourhood gatherings, direct dialogues, and introductions of candidates’ backgrounds. These democratic forums provide voters with more comprehensive information about the political qualities, professional capacity, and credibility of candidates, thereby improving the quality of the selection of deputies.

The Standing Board of the Veterans’ Association of Gia Lam Commune (Ha Noi) organised a discussion meeting on the backgrounds of candidates for deputies to the 16th National Assembly and members of People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026–2031 term on March 10, 2026.

At the meeting, voters were introduced to the working histories of the candidates and were able to openly exchange views and ask questions about their political integrity, practical capacity, and connections with the people.

Through such democratic discussions, the selection of deputies is seen not only as a right but also as a civic duty and responsibility, especially for veterans who have undergone rigorous training in the military.

In addition to communication work, veterans’ associations at all levels have closely coordinated with functional forces to grasp the situation in local areas and promptly detect and handle emerging issues, thereby contributing to maintaining socio-political stability ahead of the election.

In Dong Nai Province, the provincial Veterans’ Association has implemented its election participation plan across 101 grassroots associations and conducted communication activities for nearly 57,000 officials and members, particularly in remote and disadvantaged areas. On social media platforms, the association’s fanpages have posted nearly 200 news items, articles, photos, and videos related to the election, helping disseminate official information and promptly counter distorted narratives.

In Quang Tri Province, with a wide organisational network and a large membership base, veterans’ associations at all levels have actively coordinated in personnel consultations, preparation of facilities, review of voter lists, and participation in election teams, ensuring that procedures are implemented seriously and in accordance with legal regulations. In remote, border, and mountainous areas, veteran members even go “door to door” to inform and mobilise voters to participate in the election fully and in compliance with the law, while also helping maintain security and order so that the election can take place safely and democratically.

In many localities, veteran members are assigned to election teams, election committees, or support roles at polling stations with specific duties such as reviewing voter lists, checking the posting of candidate lists, preparing facilities, issuing voter cards, and guiding voters to follow proper procedures.

Through these concrete and practical activities at the grassroots level, veteran officials and members are contributing to ensuring that the election takes place safely and in accordance with the law, further spreading civic awareness, strengthening public trust, and creating momentum for patriotic emulation movements in the new period.
