Leaders of the Duong Dong Port Border Guard Command said that following the implementation of the two-tier local government model, the Phu Quoc Special Zone had quickly stabilised its operations, while the economy, culture and society continued to record positive development.
However, alongside the development process, the local security and public order situation still contains many potentially complex factors, including illegal transportation of goods, smuggling, illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing, maritime accidents, natural disasters, drug-related crimes, theft and land-related complaints.
The unit has proactively coordinated closely with relevant forces to strengthen the management and firm protection of national sovereignty over seas and islands, while intensifying efforts to combat illegal entry and exit, smuggling and the illegal transportation of goods across maritime borders.
At the same time, the unit has coordinated with the Fisheries Surveillance Force and the administration of the Phu Quoc Special Zone to organise patrols aimed at preventing illegal fishing activities in line with IUU regulations.
Vice President Vo Thi Anh Xuan praised the achievements recorded by officers and soldiers of the Duong Dong Port Border Guard Command in recent years, affirming that the Border Guard Force has continued to uphold its role as a “steel shield” on the nation’s frontline, contributing to safeguarding territorial sovereignty and national border security, while creating a stable environment for local socio-economic development.
The Vice President requested that in the coming period, officers and soldiers of the Duong Dong Port Border Guard Command continue to proactively grasp developments relating to border security, improve the quality of advisory work for Party committees and local authorities, and strengthen forecasting and assessment capabilities in order to promptly and effectively handle emerging issues from the grassroots level, preventing passivity or unexpected situations under any circumstances.
