At a conference held in Ha Noi on the afternoon of March 27, the Command reviewed its nationwide crime-fighting campaign conducted before, during and after the Lunar New Year 2026 holiday, while officially receiving the prestigious state honour.
Reports presented at the conference highlighted that border guard forces maintained firm situational awareness, ensuring no strategic surprises while tightening control over border areas and border gates. They promptly detected and handled emerging incidents, preventing the formation of complex security hotspots and safeguarding national sovereignty and territorial integrity.
The force has also further advanced digital transformation, applying information technology to border gate management and immigration control, including the rollout of smart border gate models in several localities.
In 2025 alone, border guards detected and handled nearly 8,000 cases involving around 12,000 suspects, seizing more than 2.47 tonnes of narcotics and goods worth over 284 billion VND (10.78 million USD). During the Tet crackdown, more than 6,000 cases involving nearly 7,000 individuals were uncovered and dealt with.
Addressing the conference, Deputy Prime Minister Bui Thanh Son called for more proactive, decisive and coordinated action in response to emerging challenges. He urged closer inter-agency and international cooperation, particularly in tackling transnational and organised crime, while warning that rising global fuel prices could heighten the risk of cross-border fuel smuggling.
In addition, the Border Guard Command was tasked with strengthening its forces, enhancing forecasting capabilities, modernising equipment, and leveraging science and technology in crime prevention, while continuing to foster strong ties with local communities along the nation’s borders.
