Based on macroeconomic data for July and August 2026, SSI Research forecasts that Viet Nam's GDP could grow by 8.7-9.3% year on year in the third quarter, with the baseline scenario close to 9%, higher than the 8.39% recorded in the second quarter.

In the first eight months of 2026, the Index of Industrial Production (IIP) increased by 11.9%. Total registered foreign investment reached 40.63 billion USD, up 55.4%. Total import-export turnover reached 770.14 billion USD, up 28.7% and the highest level in the first eight months on record.

SSI Research said Viet Nam needs to improve the efficiency of resource mobilisation and use, while promoting technology transfer, developing suppliers and strengthening domestic production capacity. According to experts, to target average GDP growth of 10% or more per year in the 2026-2030 period, Viet Nam needs to step up technology absorption, investment and innovation.
