Viet Nam affirms strong determination to protect and promote human rights

In addition to promoting the image of Vietnamese culture and people, the photo exhibition themed “Viet Nam – Identity, Humanity and Integration” which is being held in Switzerland also demonstrates Viet Nam’s pioneering role in contributing to peace, prosperity and respect for human rights globally.

From June 30 to July 9, the Permanent Office of the Vietnamese Government’s Steering Committee for Human Rights and the Permanent Mission of Viet Nam to the United Nations (UN) are jointly holding a photo exhibition titled “Viet Nam - Identity, Humanity and Integration” at the United Nations headquarters in Switzerland.

Attending the opening ceremony of the exhibition were representatives of the United Nations Office in Geneva, representatives of the United Nations Convention Committees, over 20 ambassadors and heads of representative states of the Human Rights Council, and over 40 delegates representing countries attending the 59th Session.

Speaking at the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, head of Viet Nam’s Permanent Mission to the United Nations, emphasised that the event marks an important step forward in promoting the image of Vietnamese culture and people while at the same time affirming Viet Nam’s strong determination in protecting and promoting human rights.

According to Ambassador Mai Phan Dung, the exhibition demonstrated Viet Nam’s pioneering role in contributing to peace, prosperity, and respect for human rights globally, as well as mobilising support from the international community for the position of member of the United Nations Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term.

The exhibition displays vivid artistic photos, taking viewers to explore the depth of Vietnamese culture and nature, from the majestic beauty of Ha Long Bay and the Northwest terraced fields to heritages such as Hoi An Ancient Town and Cham Towers, reflecting the harmonious blend between tradition and modernity, along with the cultural diversity of 54 ethnic groups through costumes, daily activities and unique festivals.

The photos at the exhibition introduce the beauty of Vietnamese culture, while clearly depicting efforts to ensure basic human rights. Images of religious festivals and religious rituals affirm the commitment to protecting freedom of belief and religion.

Photos of outstanding achievements in access to education, healthcare and social equality — the results of the Party and state’s policies and international cooperation — received high praise from international delegates.

As an active and responsible member of the United Nations, Viet Nam has continuously improved its legal framework and implemented priority policies for women, children, people with disabilities and ethnic minorities through free education, comprehensive healthcare, and economic development in remote and isolated areas.

The exhibition not only honours the achievements but also vividly demonstrates the determination to build a fair, democratic and civilised society, in line with the United Nations’ sustainable development goals.

In the context of the campaign for the election to the Human Rights Council for the 2026-2028 term, the Exhibition has created an important forum to introduce practical efforts while seeking consensus and support from member states and international organisations for Viet Nam.

The exhibition has received much praise from diplomats and visitors, not only as an art exhibition but also as a strong message from Viet Nam about sustainable development and global responsibility, opening opportunities for the international community to experience modern-day Viet Nam, deeply integrated but still preserving cultural identity and solidarity — core values that make up the strength of the nation.
