On this occasion, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh paid courtesy calls on President Wesley W. Simina and Vice President Aren B. Palik, Speaker of the Congress Edward B. Moses, Acting Secretary of Foreign Affairs Ricky F. Cantero, and held working sessions with leaders of the Department of Resources and Development and the Executive Director of the National Oceanic Resource Management Authority.
At the credential presentation ceremony and courtesy call on President Wesley W. Simina, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh conveyed the greetings and best wishes of President Luong Cuong and senior leaders of Viet Nam to the President, the Government and the people of Micronesia, and expressed his honour at being the first ambassador of Viet Nam to present credentials in Micronesia.
The ambassador emphasised that Viet Nam attaches importance to its friendly and cooperative relations with Micronesia, affirmed that in his position as ambassador of Viet Nam to China concurrently accredited to Micronesia he would strive to promote more substantive and effective development of bilateral relations, and expressed his hope that the two sides would step up high-level and all-level exchanges and enhance cooperation in trade, agriculture, fisheries and aquaculture, people-to-people exchanges and tourism.
President of Micronesia Wesley W. Simina highly appreciated and affirmed that Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh being the first ambassador of Viet Nam to present credentials in Micronesia was an important milestone opening a new phase of more effective cooperation between the two countries. He noted that Viet Nam–Micronesia relations still have considerable room and potential for development, and proposed that the two sides focus on promoting substantive cooperation in climate change response, agriculture and aquaculture, human resource training and tourism.
At the courtesy call on Speaker of the Congress Edward B. Moses, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh affirmed that Viet Nam is ready to share experience and support Micronesia in sustainable development, and expressed his wish to strengthen exchanges and delegation visits between the two legislatures.
Speaker Edward B. Moses expressed his impression of Viet Nam’s development achievements, and proposed that the two congresses enhance exchanges and share legislative experience, promote cooperation in transport infrastructure, water treatment, resource management, climate change response, and strengthen the role of the non-resident representative offices of Viet Nam and Micronesia in advancing bilateral relations.
In meetings with relevant agencies, Ambassador Pham Thanh Binh discussed potential and cooperation needs in areas of mutual interest, including exchanges and visits of delegations at all levels, building legal frameworks to facilitate trade and investment activities, cooperation in the development of transport, telecommunications and energy infrastructure, sustainable management of fisheries resources, upgrading fisheries value chains, as well as enhancing coordination at international and regional multilateral forums of which both countries are members.
