The two sides reviewed the implementation of the minutes of their 24th meeting and agreed on cooperation priorities for the 2026-2027 dry season. Despite increasingly scarce and less accurate information on burial sites, Vietnamese search teams recovered 850 sets of martyrs’ remains during the 2025-2026 dry season.

Both sides agreed to continue the search, recovery and repatriation operations until no further information on burial sites remains available.

During the 2026-2027 dry season, Viet Nam will maintain 11 search teams across Cambodia and step up efforts to encourage local people, particularly former soldiers, to provide information on fallen soldiers and their burial sites.

Senior Lieutenant General Le Quang Minh, Deputy Director of the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army and Standing Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese Governmental Special Committee, called for resources to be concentrated in areas where the remains of Vietnamese martyrs are most likely to be found.

He noted that the implementation of the “500-Day Campaign” had shown that information provided by local residents often resulted in highly accurate searches.

General Pol Saroeun, Senior Advisor to the King of Cambodia and Chairman of the Cambodian Governmental Special Committee, affirmed that Cambodia would continue directing military regions and provincial and municipal authorities to coordinate with Vietnamese search teams. Cambodian authorities will also assign officials familiar with local conditions to support the operations and ensure security and safety.

At the meeting, the Vietnamese delegation handed over 2026 funding support to Cambodia for the search, recovery and repatriation of martyrs’ remains.

The two sides also agreed to coordinate the restoration and upgrading of Viet Nam-Cambodia Friendship Monuments in Cambodia, while managing and using them in accordance with state regulations and local customs.
