Viet Nam contributes actively to promoting ASEAN–Chile partnership relations

After six months serving as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago, Chile (ACS), through the implementation of numerous diverse and wide-ranging activities, Viet Nam has contributed to enhancing ASEAN’s understanding of Chile and promoting the partnership between the two sides.

On February 11, Ambassador of Viet Nam to Chile Nguyen Viet Cuong chaired a meeting to review the term and hand over the rotating Chairmanship of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago, Chile to the Ambassador of Indonesia.

Ambassadors and representatives of the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines and Thailand in Chile attended the meeting.

Assuming the role of Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago, Chile from the Ambassador of Thailand in September 2025, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong presided over numerous activities, including meetings and working sessions with Chilean Minister of Foreign Affairs Alberto van Klaveren; working sessions with the Asia-Pacific Directorate (DIRAPAC); visits to Carabineros de Chile (National Police) to learn about the public security model; surveys of the tsunami warning system and maritime security in the port city of Valparaiso; and the organisation of ASEAN Family Day and the ASEAN Committee in Santiago Bowling Tournament.

At the review meeting, emphasising that Chile has been a Development Partner of ASEAN since 2019, Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong assessed that these activities had contributed to enhancing ASEAN’s understanding of Chile and promoting partnership relations between the two sides.

Ambassador Nguyen Viet Cuong expressed appreciation for the active cooperation of member embassies and wished Indonesia success in its new role as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Santiago, Chile.
