Vietnam marks 20th anniversary of Interpol membership

Nhan Dan- The Vietnamese General Department for Preventing and Combating Crime celebrated the 20th anniversary of the Vietnamese police force joining Interpol and received the National Defense Order, fírst class from the State to the Interpol Vietnam Secretariat in Hanoi, on November 23.

The event was attended by member of the Party Central Committee and Deputy Minister of Public Security Lieutenant General Pham Quy Ngo.

Over the past two decades, the Vietnamese police force has co-operated with their colleagues to investigate more than 44,000 cases of transnational, economic, and drug-related crimes as well as terrorism.

They have arrested and handed over more than 200 wanted criminals to foreign police forces and helped capture and extradite 49 wanted persons to Vietnam. The Vietnamese police have also effectively implemented hundreds of requirements for international cooperation and judicial assistance which have contributed to improving their capacity to fight organised transnational crime.
