The authorities of Montevideo have passed a resolution to name the Vietnam space on Jose Pedro Valera Avenue on the occasion of the 49th anniversary of the Liberation of the South and National Reunification Day (April 30, 1975-2024) and the 134th birth anniversary of President Ho Chi Minh (May 19, 1890-2024).

The newly passed resolution emphasises that to strengthen the bilateral cooperation between Uruguay and Vietnam, after the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations (2023), the Montevideo authorities unanimously approved the establishment of a public space named after the Socialist Republic of Vietnam.

The Montevideo authorities said that the space also commemorates the great President Ho Chi Minh, the leader of the Vietnamese people, in his journey for national salvation and his visit to Uruguay in 1912.

The authorities of Montevideo and Ho Chi Minh City are expected to jointly implement the construction of the Vietnam space. The two localities signed a letter of intent on cooperation in April 2023 to promote tourism development and people-to-people exchanges.
