Vietnam has just returned home after a disappointing 2018 AFF U19 Championship. Despite being entrusted by home fans, the “yellow stars” did not live up to expectations, failing to break through the group stage with a third-place finish in Group A.
In order to provide Tuan’s side with the best preparations for the AFC championship, the Vietnam Football Federation (VFF) has accepted an invitation to send Vietnam U19s to Qatar for the international U19 football friendly tournament.
During the competition, Vietnam will be challenged by three strong opponents, namely reigning South American champions Uruguay, Ivory Coast, and hosts Qatar.
As planned, the Vietnam U19 team will reconvene on August 15 for a training course in Japan, where they will have friendly matches against quality teams.
Tuan’s side will then leave for Qatar’s four-team tournament before heading to Indonesia for their AFC campaign, in which they target reaching the semi-finals in order to book a place in the 2019 U20 World Cup.
Vietnam has been drawn in Group C for the 2018 AFC U19 Championship finals, together with the Republic of Korea, Australia and Jordan.
