Competitors hail from eight countries: India, the Republic of Korea, the United States, Myanmar, Russia, the Philippines, Sri Lanka, and the host nation, Viet Nam.

The tournament is divided into three sections to accommodate different rating levels: the GM Group for Grandmaster norms, the IM Group for International Master norms, and the FM Open for FIDE Master and open-category players.

Organised by the Viet Nam Chess Federation in collaboration with the Ninh Binh Provincial Department of Culture and Sports, the event provides opportunities for participants to secure Grandmaster (GM) and International Master (IM) norms as well as rating points.

Beyond its sporting significance, the tournament also serves as a platform for Ninh Binh Province to showcase its socio-economic potential, scenic landscapes, and historical and cultural heritage to both domestic and international audiences.

The competition runs until December 27 at the Ninh Binh Provincial Gymnasium.
