During the meetings, Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu extended his best wishes for the new year to the leaders, officers, and soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. He also expressed gratitude for Cambodia’s valuable and significant support for Vietnam and its people over the years.
The ambassador reaffirmed his confidence that defence cooperation — a key pillar of the relationship between the two countries — would continue to be strengthened and enhanced in the coming time.
He proposed that the armed forces of both nations further boost cooperation, particularly in human resource training. He also requested that Cambodian military units continue to support and coordinate closely with Vietnam within the framework of the two governments’ specialised committee to effectively search for, exhume, and repatriate the remains of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and experts who sacrificed in Cambodia.
General Vong Pisen, Commander-in-Chief of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces, and General Mao Sophan, Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces and Commander of the Cambodian Army, expressed their appreciation to Ambassador Nguyen Minh Vu, the Defence Attaché, and officials of the Vietnamese Embassy in Cambodia for extending their new year greetings to the leaders, officers, and soldiers of the Royal Cambodian Armed Forces. They reaffirmed that Vietnam and Cambodia are close neighbouring countries that always stand side by side and support each other under all circumstances.
Generals Vong Pisen and Mao Sophan expressed their gratitude to the Communist Party, Government, and people of Vietnam, especially the Vietnam People's Army, for helping Cambodia overthrow the genocidal Pol Pot regime and for continuing to support Cambodia in its reconstruction and development. They pledged to further nurture Vietnam-Cambodia solidarity and friendship, ensuring that it remains "evergreen and everlasting."
