Vietnamese artists leave deep impressions on international audience at World Theatre Congress

Vietnamese art troupes left deep impressions on the international audience at the 36th World Theatre Congress, which wrapped up successfully in the United Arab Emirates on February 24.

Themed ‘Reunite, for the Performing Arts and Humanism’, the congress was held from February 20 to 25 in Fujairah city, by the International Theatre Institute (ITI) under the patronage of UNESCO.

The Vietnamese puppetry performance, entitled 'Mo Rong' (Dream of Dragon), was selected to feature on stage at the opening ceremony, on February 21.

It was the only performance representing the Asia-Pacific region at the opening ceremony, along with others from Europe, Africa, Latin America, Oceania and the Middle East.

Staged by director Le Quy Duong, the performance conveyed the message of peace and preservation of the traditional cultural identity. It received much praise and appreciation from the international delegates.

At the congress, Vietnamese director Le Quy Duong was elected as the Chairman of the ITI’s International Cooperation and Festival Committee. The Committee is responsible for directing, connecting, organising and operating the festivals and international theatrical exchange programmes of the ITI.
