Vietnamese people show compassion and solidarity following Typhoon Yagi

Super Typhoon Yagi has caused serious damage to humans and property, badly affecting people's work and daily life. In the face of the devastation caused by nature, Vietnamese people have multiplied the tradition of compassion and solidarity as prompt acts of kindness have been taken.

Not only are there wishes shared on social networks, many timely and practical actions have been taken to support the flood victims. These include announcements of free accommodation and shelters for out-of-town workers, homeless people or families living in unsafe areas.

Among them are owners of apartments on Nguyen Tuan Street, Thanh Xuan District, in Hanoi, who are willing to arrange free temporary shelter in their apartments as well as food and essential supplies to about a dozen workers during the time Hanoi is recovering from Typhoon Yagi. A hotel on Co To Island, Quang Ninh, is also ready to welcome residents with inadequate housing to take shelter from the storm.

All actions, no matter how small, have shown the solidarity and humanity of Vietnamese people to stand together in the storm.

There are countless actions from the heart, such as the video clip recording a convoy of cars and larger vehicles shielded a group of motorbikes across the Nhat Tan Bridge on the afternoon of September 7, while torrential rain and very strong winds battered Hanoi; a police officer in Hanoi’s Yen So Ward coming to help lonely elders; or an old lady was taken home by a car driver after staggering to push her bicycle across a bridge against headwinds.

In the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yagi, many people in the provinces of Thai Nguyen and Yen Bai have become homeless. Given the situation, on the evening of September 9, many kind-hearted people headed to the flood-hit areas, transporting food, life jackets, and raincoats to support the flood victims.

In Facebook groups, many users have posted statuses on providing free transportation of donated necessities, life jackets, and other items to uplift communities affected by Typhoon Yagi.

These acts of kindness once again demonstrate the spirit of solidarity, mutual support and compassion, which is attributed to create the strength of the entire Vietnamese nation over its more-than-thousand-year history.

In the most difficult periods of times, the solidarity and compatriotship of Vietnamese people have further promoted and spread strongly.

Natural disasters, storms, and floods are inevitable natural phenomena. Every year, dozens of storms make landfall, causing serious damage to people and property. The tragic number of deaths, the roofs, crops, livestock submerged in flood water and images of devastation make many people upset.

The tradition of sharing and solidarity among compatriots has evoked the sense of goodwill in every Vietnamese person. This tradition has become a solid foundation and motivation and strength for Vietnamese people to stand strong together to overcome the consequences of storms and floods and bring life to normality.
