The 2024 Resort Prospects Report, released by Booking.com in March, identifies key trends and reasons for booking accommodation this summer. The report was based on survey results of more than 11,000 travellers and accommodation hosts from seven Asia-Pacific countries, including Vietnam, India, Australia, New Zealand, the Republic of Korea, Japan, and China.

Varun Grover, Country Director of Booking.com in Vietnam, said in recent years, Vietnamese travellers have tended to seek the accommodation experience to replace traditional hotels. The Resort Prospects Report helps readers understand and respond to new demands from the perspectives of both accommodation providers and searchers.

In Vietnam, the beach house is the most popular model (51%), followed by cosy cabin models (34%) and farm stays (28%). In addition, in 2023, tourists tended to seek unique and novel travel experiences, such as tiny homes (25%), classic rural-style houses (21%), camping (20%), bungalows and snow houses (19%), and floating houses (11%).

The report shows that the most important factors for Vietnamese tourists when booking accommodation include security measures to protect guests (accounting for 49%); no hidden fees or additional service charges (46%); easy and flexible booking (46%); ensuring availability after depositing (39%); and being able to view detailed previous reviews (38%).

Some other factors that are considered during the booking are the ability to book immediately (25%) and the ability to cancel bookings last minute while still receiving a full refund (24%).

According to the survey, more than a quarter (26%) of Vietnamese respondents said a beachfront house or a location with a path to the beach is the most important factor that makes a resort unique and attractive in Vietnam.

Booking.com's survey was also conducted with accommodation owners. The results show that responding to the constantly changing needs of travellers, the owners of accommodation establishments have made appropriate adjustments, thereby helping the two sides get closer together in determining the key factors for booking.

Specifically, five factors that both tourists and accommodation providers consider the most important contributors to increasing bookings and making booking decisions include cleanliness and tidiness, reasonable or affordable room rates, security, location, and beautiful interior design and decoration.
