Sa Pa is one of the most attractive destinations in Vietnam, with Fansipan Mountain’s peak at an altitude of 3,147 metres, known as the "roof of Indochina". Located at a high altitude, Sa Pa is cool in the summer, so this is an ideal destination to avoid the heat and is also a popular place to hunt snow in winter. Sa Pa is also home to many ethnic minority groups, such as Mong, Dao, Giay and Tay. These are great advantages for the development of Sa Pa in general and Sa Pa tourism in particular.
Chairman of Sa Pa Provincial-level Town To Ngoc Lien said in recent years, Sa Pa tourism has made remarkable progress. In 2023, the town welcomed more than 3.68 million visitors, with revenue reaching 12.707 trillion VND. Sa Pa expects to welcome 5.8 million visitors by 2025, with revenue reaching 27.9 trillion VND.

At the workshop, experts discussed and proposed many solutions for the sustainable development of Sa Pa tourism. Standing Member of National Assembly's Culture and Education Committee, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Bui Hoai Son said that the orientation of developing Sa Pa into an ASEAN clean tourism city is in line with current world trends. Therefore, it is necessary to orient Sa Pa to become a tourism brand not only for Vietnam but also for the world.
It is crucial to strengthen the protection and preservation of core values of natural landscapes and cultural identities of ethnic minority groups, build unique, friendly, quality, attractive tourism products, and highlight outstanding points to create a competitive advantage and affirm the Sa Pa tourism brand.
