Vietnam’s gold prices hit new record despite falling world prices

On the morning of May 9, domestic gold prices in Vietnam shot up to a new height, reaching up to 88.5 million VND (3.478,78 USD) per tael, despite a slight fall in global prices.

As of 9:30, a tael of SJC-branded gold was listed at 86.2 million VND for buying and 88.5 million VND for selling, up 1 million from the close of the previous session.

The difference between the buying and selling prices was 2.3 million VND.

The prices of DOJI-branded gold also rose to 86.2 million and 87.7 million per tael for buying and selling respectively. The difference between buying and selling was 1.5 million VND.

Meanwhile, global gold prices stood at 2,309.5 USD per ounce, down slightly from a day earlier.

On May 8, the State Bank of Vietnam successfully auctioned 3,400 taels of gold at 86.05 million VND per tael, which is 750,000 VND per tael higher than the reference price.
