Vietnamese, Cambodian, Lao top leaders discuss cooperation orientations

General Secretary of Communist Party of Vietnam Nguyen Phu Trong; President of the Cambodian People’s Party and Prime Minister of Cambodia Hun Sen; and General Secretary of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and President of Laos Thongloun Sisoulith held a meeting in Hanoi on September 26.

The leaders of the three parties highly valued the significance and importance of the meeting and informed one another on the situation of each party and country, including party works and socio-economic development, especially in the context of the fight against the COVID-19.

They exchanged ideas on the cooperation over the past time; discussed its orientations for the time to come; and agreed on the importance of the traditional relations, solidarity and friendship between the three parties and countries.

President pays visit to Cuba and attends UN General Assembly’s debate

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc paid his official visit to Cuba from September 18-21, at the invitation of First Secretary of the Communist Party of Cuba Central Committee and President of Cuba Miguel Díaz-Canel.

A special success of the visit is an agreement on Vietnam’s purchase of 10 million doses of Cuba's COVID-19 vaccine.

During his trip from September 18-20, President Phuc held high-level talks and meetings with leaders of the Cuban Party and State and had a number of important activities to develop the bilateral friendship and solidarity to a new height.

President Phuc had a working trip to the US from September 21-24 to attend the high-level general debate of the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and his bilateral activities.

On the occasion, the Vietnamese President delivered a statement at the general debate of the 76th session of the UNGA, putting forth specific proposals to promote multilateral cooperation with the UN as the center and taking international law as the foundation to jointly cope with complex global challenges such as wars, conflicts, resource disputes, climate change, and the COVID-19 pandemic, which are negatively impacting peace, security and development in the world.

On the occasion, President Phuc held meetings with senior leaders of countries and international organisations, and joined summits within the framework of the UN General Assembly’s 76th session.

PM, business circle discuss ways to tackle pandemic-caused difficulties

Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh presided over an online meeting with representatives of the business circle and localities to discuss measures to continue supporting firms in the context of the COVID-19.

The PM took note of the proposals and thanked the community for joining the Party, State and people in the pandemic fight and their efforts in socio-economic maintenance and development.

He asked the firms and businesspeople to continue giving their ideas and joining the government in making institutional breakthroughs; taking a more active role so as to improve the quality of human resources; accelerating the digital transition; restructuring firms; and joining in technology transfer.

Vietnam holds high ranking in Global Innovation Index 2021

Vietnam was placed 44th out of 132 economies around the world in the Global Innovation Index 2021, which was announced by the United Nations' World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO).

The UN world rankings showed the COVID-19 pandemic sped up the shift of innovation from Europe and North America towards Asia.

Alongside Turkey (41), India (46) and the Philippines (51), Vietnam is one of the only other middle-income nations that is systematically catching up.

First Sputnik V vaccine batch successfully produced in Vietnam

The Health Ministry’s Company for Vaccine and Biological Production No.1 (Vabiotech) announced that it has successfully produced the first batch of Sputnik V vaccine in Vietnam.

The batch coded SV-030721M was tested on August 26 by the Gamaleya Research Institute of Epidemiology and Microbiology - developer of the Sputnik V vaccine, and met quality requirements.

Vabiotech will import semi-finished Sputnik V vaccine this month to pack them, thus helping Vietnam become self-sufficient in Sputnik V vaccine supply.

The digital painting themed ‘Ha Noi rong’ (Hanoi’s street vendors) by Dang Thai Tuan won first prize at the “Ha Noi is…” Illustration Contest held by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) in collaboration with UN-Habitat and the Vietnam Local Artist Group (VLAG).

According to UNESCO, about 250 young artists from home and abroad sent their illustration artworks about Hanoi to the contest between August 6 and September 9 this year.

With the evocative theme “Ha Noi is…”, young artists came up with unique and creative ideas integrated with personal touch to portray their own image of Hanoi. Hanoi Creative City was illustrated in digital paintings, silk painting, collage art, lacquer, and others.

Vietnamese engineer finds vulnerabilities in Microsoft, Adobe software

Tran Van Khang, a Vietnamese engineer at the security firm VinCSS has found six critical “zero-day” vulnerabilities in the software of Microsoft and Adobe.

These latest security loopholes raise the number of zero-day vulnerabilities detected by the company, which is a subsidiary of the domestic conglomerate Vingroup, to 80.

Vietnam crash out after close defeat to Russia at FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021

Vietnam have been knocked out of the FIFA Futsal World Cup 2021 after losing 2-3 against Russia in the round of 16.

Despite failing to advance, Vietnam can keep their heads high leaving the tournament following everything they have performed.

The 3-2 score was a praiseworthy result for Vietnam, who have shown improvement through each match in this year’s World Cup campaign.

Phu Quoc to welcome back foreign visitors in November

Based on the current vaccination situation in Phu Quoc and new developments of the disease, it has been agreed to determine the pilot time to welcome back foreign tourists to Phu Quoc from mid-November and officially pilot from the end of November or the beginning of December.

The end of November to the beginning of December is a time when international tourists travel in large numbers. The plan to welcome back foreign tourists to the island city of Phu Quoc will determine the direction for the next phase of Vietnam's tourism recovery.

Kien Giang Provincial Department of Tourism has reviewed and proposed 80 service providers to welcome international visitors to Phu Quoc, including 19 accommodation establishments with more than 7,800 rooms, five travel agencies, and seven amusement parks.
