Winners of press awards on gender equality in 2024 honoured

On December 18, the Vietnam Women's Union, in partnership with UN Women and the Vietnam Journalists’ Association, hosted the awards ceremony for the 2024 National Press Awards on Gender Equality in Hanoi.

After just one month since its launch, the awards generated widespread engagement among press and media organisations nationwide, receiving nearly 370 diverse submissions across print, online, radio, and television media.

Submissions focused on three central themes, including preventing gender-based violence, promoting gender equality in digital transformation, and fostering gender equality in economic development.

Among the entries, print and online categories dominated with 259 submissions, followed by television with 70 and radio with 32.

Each work highlights messages of gender equality, contributing to the implementation of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), as well as a profound affirmation of the role of the press and media in building a fair and progressive society and a safe environment for women and children.

In her speech, Nguyen Thi Minh Huong, Vice Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, emphasised the contributions of the works in raising awareness, fostering empathy, and inspiring positive action from the community.

She expressed the belief that the initial success of the National Press Awards on Gender Equality 2024 will contribute to motivating and encouraging reporters and journalists to produce more excellent press works, contributing to the implementation of national goals on gender equality and sustainable development goals.

Awards were given across four categories—print, online, radio, and television—each with the following structure: one A prize, one B prize, two C prizes and two consolation prizes.

In the online newspaper category, journalists from Nhan Dan Newspaper's Weekly publication won a C prize for their feature on gender equality in the digital society.

In addition, three collective awards were presented to organisations with exceptional submissions, including Vietnam Women Newspaper, Ho Chi Minh City WomenNewspaper, and Nghe An Newspaper.
