Kylian Mbappe has told Paris St Germain he will leave the Ligue 1 champions when his contract ends next year, L'Equipe reported on Monday (June 12).

The French international will not trigger a one-year extension option and could even be sold this summer as PSG will seek to prevent him from leaving for free, according to the local reports. The 24-year-old, who scored 41 goals in 43 games in all competitions for PSG this season, would be free to negotiate and sign a pre-contract agreement with a new club from January should he stay in Paris.

* Paris St Germain striker Neymar Jr said he already knew Lionel Messi was going to join MLS side Inter Miami and predicted the US top flight is set to change because of the popularity the Argentine will attract. Messi, 35, announced on Wednesday that he plans to take his talents to South Beach after his contract with French champions expires at the end of this month.

* Everton drew a line under another dismal season by announcing on Monday that directors Denise Barrett-Baxendale, Grant Ingles and Graeme Sharp, a goalscoring crowd hero in the 1980s, had left the club. A decision about the future of Bill Kenwright, who has been chairman for 19 years, will be made in the next 48 hours, the club said.

* Germany marked their 1000th international match by snatching a dramatic 3-3 draw with a last-gasp penalty against Ukraine in a charity game in Bremen on Monday. As European Championship hosts, Germany are not taking part in the qualifying campaign and will next play friendlies against Poland on Friday and Colombia four days later. Ukraine will face North Macedonia on Friday and Malta three days later in their Group C qualifiers for Euro 2024.

* Britain's tax department has lodged a winding-up petition against League One's Wigan Athletic after the club's owners failed to settle a tax bill, with a hearing scheduled for Jul 26, the BBC reported on Monday. Separately, the English Football League (EFL) has placed a transfer embargo on the club for failing to comply with tax payment rules.

* Girondins de Bordeaux's Ligue 1 promotion bid has been derailed after their final home league match, which was halted when a fan attacked a Rodez player, was declared a victory for the visitors by governing body LFP on Monday. The LFP's decision to award Rodez a victory means Bordeaux will finish third behind Ligue 2 champions Le Havre and Metz, with only the top two teams earning promoted to Ligue 1 this season.

* Fran Garcia capped off an whirlwind day on Monday when he was unveiled as Real Madrid’s first signing for next season, with a call-up from Spain for this week’s Nations League finals in the Netherlands. The 23-year-old left back has moved back to Real Madrid from Rayo Vallecano and was presented at a press conference on Monday.

* Brentford have signed Freiburg's Kevin Schade on a permanent transfer after the winger spent the second half of the 2022-23 season in England on loan, the Premier League club said in a statement on Monday. Brentford said Schade had signed a five-year deal until June 2028. Financial details were not disclosed but the Athletic reported that the fee for the winger was 22 million pounds (US$27.59 million), making him Brentford's most expensive signing.

* Defender Matthijs de Ligt suffered a calf injury in training with the Netherlands and on Monday withdrew from the squad for this week's Nations League finals, the Dutch football association said. The 23-year-old De Ligt, who has won 41 caps, suffered the injury in training on Saturday and is replaced in the 23-man squad by his Bayern Munich team mate Daley Blind.

* Beatriz Haddad Maia became the first Brazilian woman to reach the top 10 of the WTA rankings on Monday following her dream run to the semi-finals of the French Open. The 27-yaer-old beat Tunisia's Ons Jabeur in the last eight in Paris to become the first Brazilian woman in 55 years to reach a Grand Slam semi-final.

* Belgium have named two replacements for captain Kevin De Bruyne, who will miss their European Championship qualifiers against Austria and Estonia after suffering an injury in Saturday’s Champions League final. The 20-year-old pair of Johan Bakayoko and Aster Vranckx have been promoted from the under-21 squad, the Belgian football association said on Monday, for the Group F games against Austria in Brussels on Saturday and away to Estonia on June 20.
