Viet Nam–Singapore cooperation in eye care aims to standardise ophthalmology

Anh Sang International Eye Care System and Singapore-based investment fund NSQ Capital have announced the completion of an investment designed to enhance professional expertise, training human resources, applying technology, and expanding access to ophthalmic services in Viet Nam.

Addressing the investment completion ceremony, Singapore Ambassador to Viet Nam Rajpal Singh emphasised that Viet Nam–Singapore relations have been nurtured over decades on a foundation of trust and mutual respect. In the healthcare sector, leading Singaporean hospitals have in recent years signed a number of strategic cooperation agreements with Vietnamese partners, promoting professional exchanges, human resource training, and medical research.

According to Ambassador Rajpal Singh, the cooperation between NSQ Capital and Anh Sang International Eye Care System is not merely a financial investment, but also a partnership in knowledge and professional expertise. NSQ will share its experience in optimising operational processes, standardising clinical governance, and training the next generation of ophthalmologists in Viet Nam.

According to Professor, PhD, and People's Doctor Ton Thi Kim Thanh, Director of Professional Affairs at Anh Sang Eye Hospital and Chairwoman of the Viet Nam Ophthalmological Society, the hospital has in recent years advanced eye examination and treatment procedures in line with a blindness prevention and control strategy focused on the community, creating favourable conditions for poor patients, beneficiaries of social welfare policies, and families with contributions to the revolution.

During the event, Dr Vu Thi Thanh, a People's Doctor and Director of Anh Sang Eye Hospital, formerly Director of Ha Noi Eye Hospital, noted that one of the issues of particular concern to the ophthalmology sector today is the rising prevalence of refractive errors, especially short-sightedness among children and young people, amid the growing use of smartphones, computers, and other electronic devices.

Therefore, myopia control is an critical priority to help children and parents develop a proper understanding of myopia and refractive errors in general. The partnership with the Singaporean partner is also expected to create further opportunities for ophthalmologists to exchange expertise, consultation skills, and experience in applying technology to the examination and treatment of eye diseases.

According to Shawn Ng, Senior Executive Member of NSQ Capital, as the provider of capital, expertise, and resources to support the sustainable development of Anh Sang International Eye Care System, NSQ Capital will, in the new phase of cooperation, collaborate with the founding team and management board to strengthen governance capacity, develop the organisation, and invest in people and technology.
