Young people depart to defend the fatherland

On March 4, many provinces and cities across the country held the 2026 enlistment ceremonies, sending outstanding young people to perform military service and service in the People’s Public Security.

This is the first year that recruitment work has been carried out in the context of operating the two-tier local government model; commune-level Military Service Councils undertake the entire preliminary screening process, but still ensure sufficient quotas, with the quality of new recruits higher than the previous year.

On the morning of March 4, thousands of outstanding young people selected from wards and communes of Ha Noi city, including more than 40% of recruits with university, college and professional secondary education, departed to join the military. Recruit Nguyen Minh Nam from Giang Vo ward shared that during his time in the military he will actively study and train to become an outstanding soldier and successfully complete the tasks assigned.

In 2026, Ha Noi city is assigned to select and call citizens to join the military for 12 units under the Ministry of National Defense and several units of the police. This is the first year that commune-level Military Service Councils carry out the entire preliminary screening process; the quality of selected citizens is higher than in 2025, with more than 58% meeting the health requirements for enlistment, meeting the requirements of building the army in the new situation.

Major General Dam Van Nhan, Commander of the Ha Noi Capital Command, Standing Vice Chairman of the City Military Service Council, said: Among thousands of citizens of the Capital departing to join the military and perform service in the People’s Public Security, more than 2,000 people wrote voluntary enlistment applications; nearly 1,500 have university, college or professional secondary education; and 226 comrades were admitted to the Party before departure.

At Enlistment Point No. 1 – Area Defense Command No. 1 – Cam Le, Da Nang city, Senior Lieutenant General Nguyen Van Hien, Deputy Minister of National Defense, encouraged the recruits leaving to join the military, expressing hope that they will move forward firmly and confidently, carrying with them pride in their heroic homeland and the enthusiasm of youth.

The Senior Lieutenant General emphasized that in the military, recruits must constantly train themselves in politics, morality, discipline, health, and professional competence; unite and build strong units, and excellently complete the assigned tasks.

In the joyful and solemn atmosphere of the early days of the new spring, Hai Phong city organized the 2026 enlistment ceremony, sending outstanding citizens to perform military and police services.

Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam, Deputy Minister of National Defense, attended the enlistment ceremony at Enlistment Point No. 3, Hung Dao ward, where outstanding young people from 12 communes, wards and special administrative areas of Hai Phong joined the military and performed service in the People’s Public Security. Senior Lieutenant General Pham Hoai Nam and leaders of the city and Military Region 3 congratulated and encouraged the young people to enthusiastically depart for military service, contributing to continuing the glorious tradition of the armed forces of the Port City.

At 13 enlistment points in Phu Tho province, the atmosphere of the enlistment festival was solemn and warm.

In 2026, Gia Lai province selected thousands of citizens qualified to perform military service. Provincial leaders emphasized the motto “recruit the right person with certainty,” ensuring no passivity or shortage of troops.

Colonel Nguyen The Vinh, Commander of the Provincial Military Command, said reserve sources were fully prepared; from health examinations and moral assessment to coordination for troop handover, all were strictly inspected and supervised to prevent any negative practices.

The Chairman of the Provincial People’s Committee and Chairman of the Provincial Military Service Council emphasized that the success of each recruitment season is the result of the efforts of the entire political system and the people, contributing to maintaining national defense and security and creating momentum for local socio-economic development.

Nguyen Anh Khoa (23 years old, Quy Nhon ward), who graduated from the University of Finance–Marketing in Ho Chi Minh City, wrote a voluntary enlistment application after returning to his hometown. Khoa shared that the military environment with strict discipline will help him train himself and accumulate experience for the future; if suitable, he is willing to pursue a long-term military career. Khoa’s mother, Phan Thi Hoa, said the family was initially surprised but fully supported him after hearing his explanation. The family hopes Khoa will continue the tradition of his grandfather, who once served in the military, grow mature and become a useful citizen.
