2025 Theatre Awards presented in Ha Noi

The Viet Nam Theatre Artists Association held a ceremony in Ha Noi on the evening of January 30 to honour outstanding artists and outline key tasks for 2026.

At the ceremony, playwright and Doctor Nguyen Dang Chuong, Chairman of the Artistic Council and Vice President of the Viet Nam Theatre Artists Association, said that 2025 was a year marked by many major political events for the nation. Alongside these important milestones, art units and theatre artists nationwide made their best efforts to create numerous works and programmes serving political tasks and enriching people’s spiritual life.

Nguyen Dang Chuong expressed his hope that, in the near future, specialised literature and arts associations at central level, including the Viet Nam Theatre Artists Association, would more actively play their role in policy feedback and make recommendations for competent agencies to decisively implement the Party and state’s policies on the development of literature and the arts.

At the ceremony, the Viet Nam Theatre Artists Association presented theatre awards to outstanding units and individuals across a range of categories.

In the Theatre Production of the Year category, the organising committee presented four B prizes and five C prizes. In the Theoretical and Critical Research Work of the Year category, it presented three B prizes and one C prize. In the Stage Scriptwriter of the Year category, it awarded one B prize to the script “Bay Bong Mot Canh Co” by Nguyen Thanh Binh, along with five C prizes. In addition, 17 performers received awards in the Outstanding Performer of the Year category. The organising committee also presented an award for the Outstanding Creative Team of the Year.

Also, at the ceremony, the association expressed gratitude and honoured member artists who have turned 70, 80 and 90 years old, and presented the commemorative medal “For the Cause of Vietnamese Theatre” to individuals who have made sustained and outstanding contributions to the country’s theatre sector.

Speaking at the event, People’s Artist Trinh Thuy Mui, President of the Viet Nam Theatre Artists Association, said that in 2026, the association is determined to carry out key tasks such as: organising the association’s 10th congress for the 2025–2030 term; holding two creative camps and one field trip programme for authors; and staging a range of festivals, including an expanded Ha Noi Theatre Festival, the Third Southern Khmer Du Ke Theatre Arts Festival, the Second National Theatre Arts Festival for Teenagers and Children, and the Fifth National Magic Festival.
