Activities celebrate Vietnam-Laos bilateral diplomatic ties

A wide range of activities took place on July 17 in celebration of the 55th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties(September 5, 1962-2017) and 40 years since the signing of the Vietnam-Laos Treaty on Amity and Cooperation (July 18, 1977-2017).

A ceremony was held on July 17, at the Lao National Cultural Hall, to open the ‘Vietnamese Culture and Tourism Days in Lao’in Vientiane, with the attendance of Vietnamese Politburo member and National Assembly (NA) Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong; and Lao Politburo member and Chairman of the Lao Front for National Construction Central Committee Saysomphone Phomvihane.

As part of the event, there will be an exhibition featuring 60 photos on the landscape, culture and people of Vietnam, particularly focusing on the natural, tangible and intangible cultural heritages that have been recognised as world heritagesites.

Nearly 100 posters and photos on major cities, as well as traditional festivals in Vietnam, will also be introduced to the Lao people and international visitors.

In addition, Vietnamese tourism products, pottery, lacquer works, traditional musical instruments and Ao Dai (traditional long dresses) will be showcased during the exhibition.

The Vietnamese Ministry of Information and Communication also held an exhibition of 500 book titles of varying themes: society, science, literature, history and children. The books feature the lands and people of Vietnam and Laos, as well as the long-standing friendship and solidarity that have existed between the two countries over the past 55 years.

Vietnamese traditional art performances and a tourism promotion programme will also be held in the Lao capital of Vientiane, in the near future

Also on the same day, the ‘Lao Cultural and Tourism Days in Vietnam’ officially opened, with the attendance of Lao Politburo member and Lao Vice President Phankham Viphavanhan; Vietnamese Politburo member, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Pham Binh Minh; and Vietnamese Vice President Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh.

A photo exhibition featuring the Vietnam – Lao traditional friendship and comprehensive cooperation and another on Laos’ achievements in the cause of national construction and development will be the highlights of the event.

In addition, Lao artists will give unique art performances in Hanoi, Hai Phong and Thanh Hoa.

Also on July 17, the fourth Laos – Vietnam People's Friendship Festival officially kicked off in Vientiane, Laos, with the participation of nearly 1,000 delegates from the two countries.

The Vietnamese delegation includes 56 officials, led by member of the Party Central Committee (PCC), deputy head of the PCC’s Organisation Commission, member of the NA Standing Committee and Chairman of the Vietnam – Lao Friendship Association; meanwhile the Lao delegation was led by Vilaivong Boutdakha, member of Lao Party Central Committee, President of Planning, Finance and Audit Committee and Chairman of the Lao – Vietnam Friendship Association.

The festival will run until July 22 in Vientiane and Kham Muon province with a range of meaningful activities.

On the occasion, Vietnamese Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, in collaboration with Lao Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism, held a photo exhibition themed ‘The beauty of the land and people of Laos’, aiming to enhance the mutual understanding and friendship between the two Parties, States and people.
