The event was also to mark the 60 year anniversary since the organisation’s establishment and the 50th founding anniversary of the Organisation of Solidarity with the People of Asia, Africa and Latin America.
Speaking at the event, Chairman of the Committee Pham Van Chuong stressed the organisation’s formation has been closely associated with the development of struggle movements in Asian, Africa and Latin American countries, which helped promote solidarity to regain and safeguard national rights and democracy in the second half of 20th century.
With support of the Committee and Organisation as well as their member organisations, Vietnam’s solidarity committees were successful in connecting the struggle of Vietnamese people with solidarity movements of people in Asian, Africa and Latin American countries and other areas, contributing to forming a large front of people worldwide supporting Vietnam’s resistance war against the US.
Pham Tien Tu, Vice Chairman of the Committee, highlighted the significance of the event, saying that it offers a chance to show deep gratitude to people in Asia, Africa and Latin America for their solidarity and great support for Vietnam over the last 50 years.
He expressed belief that the two organisations will continue to make important contributions to struggles of people across the world for peace, national independence and democracy and social progress.
Participants to the event heard reports on activities of several movements in Asia, Africa and Latin America.
