Bac Ninh: National campaign launched to promote foreign language learning

The Ministry of Education and Training (MoET) held a ceremony in Bac Ninh Province on December 30 to launch a national campaign to promote foreign language learning and encourage self-study initiatives on improving language proficiency within educational institutions.

Speaking at the launch, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong emphasised that the teaching and learning of foreign languages is a significant focus for the education sector.

He stated that proficiency in foreign languages not only facilitates cultural exchange but also enhances individual competitiveness, thus contributing to the sustainable development of the country.

While applauding the effective teaching methods and results in English language education in Bac Ninh Province, the deputy minister expressed his hope that Bac Ninh would lead in piloting effective models and practices in the nationwide English teaching movement.

Looking ahead, to gradually establish English as a second language in schools, Deputy Minister Pham Ngoc Thuong urged localities across the country to pay attention to foreign language instruction; and enhance communication efforts aimed at raising societal awareness, especially among the youth, regarding the importance of foreign language education within the national education system.

This campaign is part of MoET’s broader efforts to implement the Politburo’s directive, which urges the education sector to prioritise enhancing students’ and learners’ foreign language skills, with the ultimate aim of establishing English as a second language in schools.
