The remark was made by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, Chairwoman of the Kovalevskaia Award Committee in Vietnam at the exchange programme of generations, who were honoured with the award, in 40 years (1985-2025) and award ceremony to present the Kovalevskaia scholarship in 2025, taking place in Hanoi, April 1.
The event was attended by former Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan, Chairwoman of the Kovalevskaia Award Committee in Vietnam and Chairwoman of the Vietnam Association for Promoting Education; Nguyen Thi Tuyen, member of the Party Central Committee and President of the Vietnam Women's Union; Professor, Dr Neal Koblitz, Director of the Kovalevskaia Award Fund and leaders of departments, ministries, branches, organisations, and female scientists.
Speaking at the event, President of the Vietnam Women's Union Nguyen Thi Tuyen said that the Kovalevskaia Award has been awarded in Vietnam since 1985, becoming the first international award dedicated to female scientists, recognising the outstanding contributions of women in research and application of science and technology, especially in natural sciences - a key field of the knowledge economy.
Over the past 40 years, the award has honoured 22 collectives and 57 outstanding female scientists in mathematics, physics, chemistry, biology, agriculture, medicine, and information technology.

The honoured scientists’s research works not only bring about breakthroughs in science but also contribute practically to economic development, and improve people's health and quality of life.
From applying biotechnology to agriculture to medical research to help treat serious diseases, Vietnamese female scientists have demonstrated their important role in helping the country escape poverty and develop sustainably.
