According to the Management Board of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, Ban Gioc Waterfall is ranked as a national scenic spot according to Decision No. 989, dated May 20, 1998, of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.
Ban Gioc is also known as the world's fourth largest and most beautiful waterfall among waterfalls on the border between countries, after Iguazu Falls between Brazil and Argentina, Victoria Falls between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and Niagara Falls between the US and Canada.
Ban Gioc waterfall consists of the main waterfall and subordinate waterfall, with a total width of about 300m.
The main waterfall, approximately 50m wide, is on the border between China and Vietnam.
