Ban Gioc Waterfall, Dam Thuy commune, Trung Khanh district, Cao Bang province is compared by many people as a "jewel" on the "crown" of Cao Bang tourism. According to the Management Board of Non Nuoc Cao Bang UNESCO Global Geopark, Ban Gioc Waterfall is ranked as a national scenic spot according to Decision No. 989, dated May 20, 1998, of the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism.

Ban Gioc is also known as the world's fourth largest and most beautiful waterfall among waterfalls on the border between countries, after Iguazu Falls between Brazil and Argentina, Victoria Falls between Zambia and Zimbabwe, and Niagara Falls between the US and Canada.

Ban Gioc waterfall consists of the main waterfall and subordinate waterfall, with a total width of about 300m.

The main waterfall, approximately 50m wide, is on the border between China and Vietnam.

The subordinate waterfall is situated in Vietnam and is 150m wide, including one cascade approximately 30m high.

Upstream the waterfall is a mature to old karst landscape with peak clusters-depressions merging with isolated towers on a planation surface at an altitude of 400-600m.

Downstream of the waterfall, the Quay Son River valley extends several kilometres more with fault cliffs and karst fields. Thick forest covers both up and downstream, which, coupled with clean and frothy water all the year round and peaceful and lively human activities, will surely provide visitors with an unforgettable experience.
