The project was greenlighted by the Prime Minister in May 2014 and approved by the Ministry of Industry and Trade December 2015.
It will be implemented over nearly six months at total costs of VND484.815 billion (US$21.8 million), 85% of which comes from the central budget and the remaining is funded by the EVN Central Power Corporation.
According to Duong Quang Thanh, Chairman of EVN Member Council, the project aims to meet the local demand for stable and quality power for production and daily activities, and give a boost to Cu Lao Cham’s socio-economic and cultural development, contributing to safeguarding national defence and security as well as the country’s sacred sea and island sovereignty.
Connection to the national grid will open up new opportunities for Cu Lao Cham, thereby helping it maximise potential for sea and island tourism, Thanh noted.
Cu Lao Cham belongs to Tan Hiep island commune, 18km away from Hoi An Ancient Town. It comprises of four hamlets accommodating 602 households with 2,449 people.
