Djokovic to face Cachin in Wimbledon opener, Rybakina up against Rogers

Defending women's champion Elena Rybakina will face American Shelby Rogers in the opening round at Wimbledon while men's second seed Novak Djokovic will begin his title defence against Argentina's 67th-ranked Pedro Cachin.

* Barcelona have reached agreement with defender Samuel Umtiti to terminate his contract, the Spanish champions said on Friday (Jun 30). The France international joined Barca from Olympique Lyonnais in 2016 and had three years left on his contract.

* Senegal striker Nicolas Jackson has joined Chelsea from Villarreal on an eight-year contract, the Premier League club announced on Friday (Jun 30). The 22-year-old played a vital role for Villarreal last season, scoring nine goals in the final eight matches and winning the LaLiga Player of the Month award for May.

* Ruben Loftus-Cheek has signed for AC Milan from Chelsea, the Serie A club announced on Friday (Jun 30). Midfielder Loftus-Cheek arrives at Milan for a reported fee of around 21 million euros (US$22.8 million) after spending his entire career as a Chelsea player, apart from two loan spells at Crystal Palace and Fulham.

* Australia midfielder Aaron Mooy has retired from club and international football with immediate effect, the 32-year-old Celtic player announced on Friday (Jun 30). Mooy made his Socceroos debut in 2012 and went to be capped 57 times. He featured in two World Cup campaigns, helping Australia reach the round of 16 in Qatar last year.

* Former Netherlands striker Patrick Kluivert has been appointed manager of Turkish side Adana Demirspor on a two-year contract, the Super Lig club announced on Friday. Kluivert, 46, has coached Curacao and was part of the Netherlands coaching staff under Louis van Gaal from 2012-2014.

* Wieke Kaptein was included in the Netherlands 23-player squad for the Women's World Cup on Friday by coach Andries Jonker with the 17-year-old midfielder becoming the country's youngest ever player called up for the global tournament.

* Red Bull's Max Verstappen set the pace in practice for his team's home Austrian Grand Prix on Friday despite staying on medium tyres while rivals set their best times on the quicker softs. The runaway Formula One championship leader set a best time of one minute and 05.742 seconds with his final lap of the session around Spielberg's scenic Red Bull Ring at the start of the season's second sprint weekend.

* Iga Swiatek pulled out of the Bad Homburg Open ahead of her semi-final match on Friday after the world number one said she had come down with fever and possible food poisoning. Swiatek was set to play Lucia Bronzetti in the semi-finals of the grasscourt tournament, a tune-up event for Wimbledon which begins on Monday.

* Captains will be permitted to wear armbands with messages about inclusion, gender equality and peace at the Women's World Cup, an about-face for FIFA after rainbow armbands were not allowed at the men's tournament last year in Qatar.

* Olympic champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen held off Lamecha Girma in a battle of world record holders to win the much-anticipated men's 1,500 metres at the Athletissima Diamond League meet on Friday. The 22-year-old from Norway, who broke the world mark in the seldom-run two-mile event this month in Paris, clocked three minutes 28.72 seconds, less than a second off his personal best despite a chilly evening at Stade Olympique de la Pontaise.

* Paris Saint-Germain coach Christophe Galtier will face trial in December as a result of an investigation into alleged discrimination, the Nice prosecutor said on Friday (Jun 30).
