Elevated section of Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway officially put into commercial operation

The Hanoi People’s Committee held a ceremony on November 9 to officially commence the commercial operation of the elevated segment of the Nhon-Hanoi Station urban railway project.

The Nhon-Hanoi Station route spans more than 13 km, including 8.5 km of elevated segment (from Nhon to Cau Giay) and 4km of underground section.

The project was funded by the Asian Development Bank, the French Development Agency in Vietnam, the French Treasury, and the European Investment Bank, with technology and expertise from leading French companies.

At the ceremony, Duong Duc Tuan, Deputy Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee, stated: “This project has gone through various stages, facing challenges such as land clearance, construction in densely populated areas, and the impacts of the pandemic in the 2020-2021 period. With the efforts of all parties and the support of the people, we have overcome these obstacles to complete the elevated segment, starting commercial operations on August 8, 2024. This project represents a significant milestone in fostering sustainable urban transportation and symbolises the partnership between Vietnam and France.”

Tuan also asked for the acceleration of the progress of the CP-03 package (the underground segment) towards the timely completion of the entire line.

At the ceremony, French Ambassador to Vietnam Olivier Brochet highlighted the vital role of urban railways in developing sustainable urban transport. He noted that the railway line is a flagship project within the France-Vietnam cooperation portfolio. France is committed to collaborating with Hanoi on the underground segment and is keen to work with Vietnam on future urban railway and infrastructure projects.
