The event was attended by senior leaders including Politburo member Do Van Chien, Secretary of the Party Central Committee and President of the Viet Nam Fatherland Front Central Committee.
The campaign aims to assist at least 1.2 million people, support 100,000 humanitarian addresses, build 500 Red Cross houses, and conduct 50 free health check-up programmes. Activities are expected to reach a total value of 400 billion VND (15.39 million USD).
Speaking at the ceremony, Do Van Chien emphasised the Red Cross’s vital role in promoting humanitarian values and supporting vulnerable communities, including the poor, disaster victims, and people affected by conflict and disease. He called for modernisation of operations, adoption of digital tools, and stronger international cooperation.
Founded by President Ho Chi Minh in 1946, the VRCS continues to be a key force in Vietnam’s humanitarian mission, deeply rooted in the nation’s tradition of compassion and solidarity.
To date, the organisation has mobilised over 225 billion VND (8.66 million USD), 56% of its 2025 goal. During the two-day launch event (May 7–8), activities included incense offering at historical sites and charitable programmes aiding local communities.
The launch also featured awards for outstanding contributors and 25 scholarships for underprivileged students in Ho Chi Minh City.
