At the signing ceremony in Kep, the two sides reviewed the results of their cooperation and agreed to provide the best possible conditions for Team K92 under the An Giang provincial Military Command to carry out its mission in Kep during the 2026-2027 dry season.
The cooperation will focus on mobilising local authorities, armed forces and residents to provide information and guide search teams, while ensuring security and safety for personnel involved in the recovery efforts.
According to the An Giang provincial specialised committee, since the two Governments signed an agreement on August 28, 2000, search teams from An Giang have recovered and repatriated the remains of 4,414 Vietnamese fallen soldiers from six Cambodian provinces.
In Kep alone, Team K92 has recovered the remains of 91 Vietnamese fallen soldiers, including 12 sets of remains during the 2025-2026 dry season.
Speaking at the ceremony, Le Van Phuoc, Vice Chairman of the An Giang provincial People’s Committee and head of the provincial specialised committee, expressed his sincere appreciation for the wholehearted support of Kep authorities, armed forces and residents.
He noted that many sets of Vietnamese soldiers’ remains have yet to be found as the terrain has changed considerably over time. He called on Kep to continue close coordination, particularly in gathering information and identifying potential locations, to maximise the effectiveness of the search.
On the occasion, the An Giang specialised committee presented gifts to its Kep counterpart and coordinating units. Colonel Nguyen Viet Thang, Political Commissar of the An Giang provincial Military Command and deputy head of the provincial specialised committee, also handed over 20,000 USD in support, authorised by the Vietnamese Government’s specialised committee, to assist search and recovery operations during the 2026-2027 dry season.
