The memorial, named the Symbolic Area recognising the support and assistance of other nations during Viet Nam’s resistance wars, is being built within the grounds of the Vietnam Military History Museum.
The memorial comprises a general symbol of the support and sacrifice of foreign military experts, made of bronze, designed by Viet Nam; a monument paying tribute to military experts from the former Soviet Union/Russian Federation, China, Laos, Cambodia, and Cuba, also made of bronze; and a relief panel carved from monolithic green stone, conceptualised and constructed by Viet Nam. The memorial is surrounded by a landscaped space with greenery and lawns.
In preparation for construction, the General Department of Politics of the Viet Nam People’s Army directed relevant agencies and units to clear the site, complete levelling, and build an access road for construction (approximately 150m long and 5m wide); meanwhile, materials, personnel, machinery, and equipment were mobilised. To date, the project has commenced construction according to the approved design plan.
Regarding the artistic content, leading domestic sculptors have completed draft models of the statues for the respective countries and are currently gathering feedback from those countries on the content and design.
The General Department of Politics has set the target of completing the first group of statues in celebration of the 80th Anniversary of the August Revolution and National Day on September 2.
Upon hearing the report on the content and progress of the project, General Phan Van Giang emphasised that this project is of great significance, aiming to commemorate and express gratitude to the military experts and personnel from other nations who assisted Viet Nam in its national liberation struggles. He also instructed the relevant authorities to implement the project as an urgent construction order from the Minister of National Defence.
